Working with Clients whose behaviour we experience as challenging – Support Worker Training day

Posted by Kayleigh Douglas-Alexander

30th April 2015

Over the next year, Psychology Chartered will be delivering a number of specialist training events designed to target very specific and difficult challenges commonly faced by support workers of brain injury clients. With over 20 years clinical experience supporting an extensive variety of clients, Dr Richard Maddicks will be leading these events, supported by Paul Walshe, who also works as a team leader for a brain injury client in Hampshire. Psychology Chartered is ideally positioned to offer a holistic approach to this line of training and guarantee it remains relevant to both the needs of the client and the support worker.

Our course Working with Clients we Experience as Challenging focuses on empowering the support worker to build on their existing resources, as well as develop new skills which will improve their ability to produce better interactions with their clients during episodes of difficult behaviour. This course looks at techniques to establish and re-build rapport with the client should this break down whilst on shift, and also looks to address self-care strategies during these difficult periods to ensure staff resilience levels remain high. With the inclusion of real and familiar scenarios for the group to consider, this course will resonate strongly with support workers who wish to better influence their client during times which are often most challenging and difficult.

The feedback from our last training course was extremely positive with support workers expressing they found the content very relevant to their day-to-day experiences of working with clients. In addition, we were pleased to hear that support workers found our strategies positive and thought-provoking and which could be easily applied with their clients.

This course will be run on Thursday June 25th 2015 in Eastleigh, near Southampton as part of a two day Support Worker Training Programme; details about the Effective Stress Management for Support Workers and Carers event can be found here and on the programme (see below). We recommend that you book early as places are limited and in the past have proven to fill up quickly.
